Personal interviews (CATI + CAPI)

Some research questions require that people are interviewed by an actual person, for instance via the telephone (CATI or Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews) or at home, at a central location, at the workplace, etc. (CAPI or Computer Assisted Personal Interviews). Although personal interviews are usually more expensive and more time-consuming than most other methods, they have some advantages, such as the fact that all target populations can be reached (all age groups, perfect regional distribution, specific professions, etc.), that additional questions can be asked by the interviewer based on responses given before and that there are fewer limits on the survey length, to list only a few.
