Authentic Intelligence

Boundless curiosity and a passion for people – this perhaps best describes Elke. This unique combination quickly led to a flourishing academic career. With a PhD in psychology, Elke held various positions at the universities of Harvard, St Andrews, Maastricht and Rotterdam, where she attracted international attention with her solid research work. But she was drawn to the business world. Triggered by her scientific insights about mental resilience, she started the company Better Minds at Work with Pia Buysse. This international consultancy company focuses on increasing mental resilience, energy and productivity of employees and now consists of about thirty psychologists, doctors and consultants..

Elke’s trademark is without doubt the way in which she manages to translate new psychological insights into fresh and accessible day-to-day applications. This is how she inspires people and organisations to hone their mental resilience and to become the best possible version of themselves.

5 million. That’s the number of jobs that will be lost by 2020 to the rise of robots. A mind-boggling figure that evokes strong emotions and raises the pressing question: ‘How will we humans claim our place in this increasingly digital world?’

In ‘Authentieke Intelligentie’ (lit. Authentic Intelligence), Elke Geraerts dares to openly address the quasi-existential topic that keeps us all awake at night. While robot developers flirt with the boundaries of impossibility, Geraerts is fascinated by the question of where the uniqueness of mankind actually lies. What irreplaceable qualities does the human brain have? What special characteristics give us a competitive advantage over our digital counterparts? Geraerts presents powerful arguments as to why it is high time we invested in imagination and mental agility, describes what can be achieved if managers use everyone’s expertise and explains why organisations should wait no longer before awakening the calihero in their employees. Elke Geraerts takes us on an exciting quest for the viability of our human species in this digital age, and produces an impressive discourse on our impact on the course of history and the ways in which we can shape the world of tomorrow. There has never been a clearer call to action.
